Present: Terry & Judi Nichols, Sandy Schwartz, Al Fredrickson,
Phil Reece, Eric Schmidt, Bob Voll,
Jon Paul, John Vermie, Craig
Louthain, Ed Blondin, Dannette Holifield, Bill LeFevre, MaryAnn Bushaw, and
Patrick Bushaw. The meeting was
called to order at 8:15 pm.
Treasurer’s Report: Please see attached. Submitted
and reviewed by Jon Paul. Two of the boys earned their oak nuts, so the troop
will reimburse their $25 paid as their initial investment.
Susie’s announcements:
Philmont
Patch – we can design our own patch for 2003.
Once it is designed, it can be taken for council approval.
T-shirts:
Mr. LeFevre has orders for the boys and many adults; other adults should call
him SOON
Family
Camp-out in August: Susie asked if boys would help the girl scouts with some
badges.
Flags:
Will get information on designing and making flags for ranks: Some troops
have flags that the boys sign when they reach each rank. Susie will look into information for it.
Website: John still needs merit badge counselor
list. Eric and Terry will take care
of this.
Lockwood Park: John and Ed will take care of the picnic table repair
because Bill is tied up.
Philmont:
§
Payment is due next week or the
following week. Eric will collect
any payments brought next week, and Bill will be here the 18th to
collect the remainder.
§
Clarification: we are not designing a ”council”
patch – just a troop patch, or a T-shirt design.
Tents:
§
Jon & Eric have requested a donation
from a private organization to buy six tents.
They will be used for high adventure – backpacking tents.
§
Bill moved to buy the tents within the
next two weeks and allot up to $1000 from the troop if the above funds do not
come through.
Camp Lakota:
·
Patrick: Dutch ovens went fairly well
– needed to find a better way to clean them.
Terry felt that too many coals/heat caused food to burn into the cast
iron. This may have caused the
cleaning problem.
·
Cooking skills are scheduled for the
August 20 meeting. Bill will
reserve the shelter at Bauman Park so we can perfect our dutch oven skills.
·
The RR merit badge was completed. There was a discussion of the activities
held back in camp while the others were gone.
Feelings were mixed.
·
Dutch oven cleanup from breakfast and
supper were both problems.
·
One scout requested more achievement
work done at the meetings rather than just at camp-outs. This needs to be explored and discussed
further – we need more time during meetings to do outdoor advancement work. Need to frequently remind boys that they
can always ask for help.
·
One enjoyed focusing a camp-out on one
merit badge.
CPR: Bill LeFevre had 8 people at the CPR
training on Saturday, June 1st.
Eric will schedule another training through the Belvidere fire
department. It is available for
adults and youth.
Summer Camp:
§
Many scouts are signed-up for summer
camp, except only a few.
§
Because of the distance of our campsite
from the dining hall, the troop is allowed to bring bikes. After discussion about safety issues
that developed during the last bike hike and the difficulty of transporting 30+
bikes, it was decided not to bring bikes.
§
Life Guard training: no one is
interested in it.
§
Climbing tower: Terry is the only one
signed up to do the training. Al is
already certified.
§
On Wednesday night, their staff goes
home for a day. The camp will
supply the food, but the troop needs to do their own cooking with troop
equipment.
§
The troop needs to have complete
advancement records/history for all scouts.
§
High Adventure: We have only seven
people in our crew and we need eight to avoid a price increase. Therefore, we need an extra adult or
scout.
Isle Royale: Everything is under control,
except for purchasing tents.
Order of the Arrow Elections: The inductions will take place at the Fall Conclave, August
16-18. Lucas Dwyer accepted the
position of OA Representative; he should get training at the Fall Conclave.
Training:
·
MaryAnn’s Woodbadge training is
scheduled to start in August. The
second course is not firm yet. However, the deadline has been extended; hoping
to recruit enough people to make it viable.
·
Council Junior Leader Training: The four Scouts each need a
light-weight tent from the troop.
Eagle Courts of
Honor:
Eric Paul & Adam LeFevre – June 8
Jon Decorie – June 15
Life Guard
Training: Patrick is interested in the next time it is available.
Cherry Valley
Days: Bill needs the contract returned ASAP. Patrick will take it to Bill’s house.
Backpacking Merit Badge: Ed has seven scouts working on it.
Swim Nights: Sandy has submitted dates to the
school for Tuesday nights; she is waiting for an answer.
T-shirts: Phone calls were not completed. Anyone wanting a green T-shirt should
let Bill know ASAP.
Blackhawk Area
Regatta: The Venture crew
and older scouts are encouraged to go on July 27, 2002.
Webelos Overnight
in Belvidere: Amy Ramos needs Scouts/Scouters to greet people on June
20, 2002. Marion and Phil will
coordinate it and will play with knots with the Webelos. Thanks!
Family Camp-out:
· Susie and Andy have made reservations.
· John will coordinate the event, with Ed and Sandy working on the committee.
·
Any Scout can attend, but they must go with their family, or with
an “adopted” family, or adult. That
adopted family or adult will assume all responsibility for that Scout.
Christmas Trees: Terry will send out for quotes. We will make a decision by September.
