Present: Terry & Judi Nichols, Al Fredrickson, Phil Reece, Bob Voll, Jon Paul, Craig Louthain, Bill LeFevre, Ed Blondin, Peggy Schuchard, Nathaniel Blondin, Eric Schmidt, Dannette Holifield

Meeting started at 8:05 .

Treasurer’s Report: Please see attached.  Submitted and reviewed by Jon Paul. One correction: a deposit of $1500 from Festa was made and listed under “inflows”.  Account totals are correct.

Past Events

June - Summer Camp: Sandy did finally get a responsive phone call.  They will be working on it.  The camp is saying we owe them $150.  Sandy will report at next meeting.  A total of 54 people camped this summer at Troop 181 adventures; Tomahawk Scout Reservation, Tomahawk high adventure, and two Isle Royale crews.

Aug. 23 – Woodbadge Training: MaryAnn is looking for ideas to work her “ticket”.  She is considering being a training coordinator, but she would like to do more.  Peggy will be looking for ideas too.

Aug. 23-25 - Cherry Valley Days: The Venture Crew had the slower Pepsi trailer – less work but equal profit.  Profit will be about $600-$700.

Aug. 24 - Troop JLT: Ed & Craig were excellent help.  Our SPL was also there.  Good mixture of older and younger boys.  Good program that promoted team building.  Nice weather and facilities.  Lunch was a fun activity to build negotiating, problem-solving and leadership.  Some favorite activities included a trust fall and “garbage collecting”.  Everyone seemed to have had a good time.

Sept. 7 - Bike Hike: Al passed out a summary report of the day.  It was a nice day and there were a few minor injuries and a few mechanical problems.  The only big problem was two bikes being stolen.  Trip was 34 miles long.  21 people went on the hike.  (See attached report.)  The inspection prior to the hike went well, except the “tags” were not used.  Thanks, Ed, for being able to carry 9 bikes alone.

Future Events

Sept. 20-22 - Religious retreat: No new information. Tyler did the final promotion.

Sept. 25 - Leader Basics:  Phil & Dannette will be attending.

CPR:  Eric is setting up the next one.  He has only three names at this time.  Ed will get names of people now here tonight for Eric to contact.

Oct. 11-13 - Fall Cook-O-Ree II: The camporee fee is $7.  It was moved and passed that the fee for the boys will be $7.  Planning needs to begin soon.  Al will work with Terry to get it organized and planned.  Competition is by patrols.  This will be brought up at the next troop meeting.  The PLC will also be involved in the planning.  They may need to clean out the trailer on 9/24th, which is also a time to plan menus, and a visit from a Webelos den from Pack 141, Belvidere .

October 22 - Court of Honor: PLC has discussed this briefly.

Christmas Wreaths & Trees:

·        Terry wrote letters to 6 places and has heard back from 5 of them.  The probable first choice is the one that did not respond yet.

·        Dates for wreath sales:

Advanced Sales

October 1 – November 5

Pick up

November 16

Money due

December 3

Nov. 1 - Popcorn Sales: Jamie Beck will organize it, but she cannot go to the training.  Sandy and MaryAnn are resources for her.  This is strictly a voluntary activity.

Nov. 2 - Yard Rake: This is on the calendar. Bill LeFevre will coordinate it.

Nov. 9 - Veterans Day Parade: Bill has not heard anything about it yet.

November 16 - Christmas Tree Lot Set-Up: Eric will coordinate.  Terry heard that all tree growers spray their Scotch Pines with colorant.  They stop developing chlorophyll in October, so they begin to lose their colors.  Need to keep them out of sun as much as possible when they are on lot.

Order of the Arrow Elections: Peggy is going to work on this as part of her ticket.

Summer, 2003 - Philmont:

·        Payment is due on October 1st.  21 are committed at this time.  We have 2 crews, plus one from Troop 205.  We need to offer the other trek to another troop, or forfeit it.  (We have 5 Venture scouts, 8 Boy Scouts, and 8 adults.)

·        $5122 is due from our troop on October 1st.

Summer, 2003 - Camp for Younger Scouts: The Scouts chose to go to Canyon Camp.  Terry needs to consult with a few others to pick dates.  Craig will contact Canyon Camp to see what dates are available.

 Miscellaneous Business

Climbing dates: Climbing instructors will try to pick a date (Terry & Al) to go to Lowden.

Fund raising for Venture crew: Scouts who are 18-20 years old can remain members of the Venture crew.  They are considered adults for Troop outings.  They can earn money for their own accounts to be used only for the Venture activities, as discussed at the August committee meeting.

Great Lakes Naval Base: Phil has access to a tour of the base.  The committee asked if this could be turned into an over-night.  A Merit Badge Midway has been done in the past.  Since our district is planning a merit badge midway this year, a tour might be the main focus.  (Al has also heard about an opportunity to stay over-night in a submarine.)  Phil will get more information.

Historian:  O.J. is the historian.  Phil will contact Dan Murphy to see if he wants to continue being the historian coach.

Tents:  The tents purchased for backpacking worked well.

Klondike Derby : Nathaniel expressed that there is some interest in this event.  He will discuss this with the PLC.
