This was Jon’s last report as treasurer.
Many many thanks for all your hard work!!! Past
Events Flagpoles: No news
about the new flagpoles from the VFW offer made at the Veterans Day Parade. It was a very good trip.
Weather was wonderful so the troop could walk easily to various events.
Cost was excellent. Craig was
able to negotiate the removal of the surcharges from the meals.
There was 19 scouts and 7 adults. Show
& Do:
Went very well. Several
adults renewed some needed certifications. Very
useful! Future Events CPR
Training: There might be a class this
Saturday at the Merit Badge Event. Eric
Schmidt is still going to arrange classes for re-certifications and new
certifications. MaryAnn is compiling
lists. Swim
Nights: One is scheduled for tomorrow. John
Vermie will be there. Marcus
Tryggestad will be there. There will
be members of Pack 181 there as visitors. Terry
White is a Certified Lifeguard too. Leader
Basics: Dates start April 26-27
Camp-out: Lincoln Pilgrimage – Leave early Saturday morning; return to
Climbing
dates: No new information as of today.
Hope to get two dates – one for the crew and one for the troop, so the
groups are small enough that everyone has ample climbing time with less goof-off
time. May: June: Philmont 2003:
Adults should pay their $100 by the end of April.
19 people are currently going. Bill
shared that Amtrak is currently having a special – if you buy one ticket, you
can buy a second ticket at half price, and the third ticket is free.
He will check on refund policy, if Amtrak goes out of business.
If all is well, he should buy the tickets ($1000+ savings).
Both crews got their first choices of itineraries. Summer Camp 2003
– Canyon Camp: Woodbadge
Training, Aug. 22-24 & Miscellaneous
Business Andrew
Benoy: He
is working on a new board to honor Eagle Scouts.
No news. Super
Fundraiser: MaryAnn is still
checking on the elephant ears trailer for Boone County Fair.
It looks like we may be able to use the trailer, but we are still waiting
on final word. Would have to have a
health inspector certify us. We need
to contact Fair officials soon. Troop
Development: The PLC has
been working hard on developing the calendar for the following year.
Several events include rebuilding an old appliance, visiting a submarine,
doing lashings at Anderson Woods. Terry
White will reserve Anderson Woods for April, 2004.
The Scouts want to go to Boundary Waters next year.
Each month has a theme. We
will need adults to make phone calls and organize some of these events.
They should do this in conjunction with the scouts who planned each set
of activities. We are on a waiting list for something.
Indications are - we may be able to get a spot.
If we do this, we may have to wait a year to go to Boundary Waters. Annual Tour
Permit: New members should give their information to Dan Murphy.
Terry had copies of it, which he distributed to most attendees tonight. District Award of
Merit: Congratulations to
Eric Schmidt!! – District Award of Merit.
Congratulations to Bill LeFevre!!! – Outstanding Charter Organization
Representative. Congratulations to
Sandy Schwartz!!! – Unit Spirit Award. The
troop has been requested to host this event in 2004.
Food was catered. We would
need to order food, do table decorations, etc.
MaryAnn will be talking with Pack 181 to see if they want to join us in
this venture. Bill will reserve the
large room at the Blackhawk Fire Station for the first Sunday in April, but we
will also try to get St. Rita’s Church with Pack 181. Record of Scouter
Training/Service: MaryAnn
would like to have everyone’s records ASAP. Treasurer:
Craig will be our treasurer after tonight. We will need a future decision about buying additional
water filters for wilderness camps at a cost of $80 each.
Do we need to buy any before we go to Philmont? Merit Badge Counselor List:
It has been updated and is correct. Eric
made a hard copy of it from the CD and is making a separate list of just troop
merit badge counselors. Eagle Scout and Youth Recognition Dinner:
The Pauls and the LeFevres attended it.
It was BIG! Meeting Locations: We
have been asked to turn in our keys, as there will be a new security system.
The fire department is suggesting using Station 3 for meetings that has a
nice room that is secured separately from the engines, etc.
Such a change would be good for some members and further away for others.
It was decided to have our next committee meeting at Station 3 to look
over the facilities. Old Flags:
The district is looking for old flags for their ceremony.
The troop has several old flags. The
committee voted to participate in both parades in Request for Volunteer Adult Judges:
Should not be a problem if we commit to going to Triple P. Troop Program Resources:
Motion to buy 2 copies for the troop to use, $25 each.
Motion passed. Council Jr. Leader Training:
Recommendation that our SPL attend it along with some of the other
leadership members. Being held at
TFC Camp near Rochelle. The scouts
need to be at least 13 years old and First Class.
The Scout pays $25 toward the costs, and the troop will pay the rest.
If the Scout earns his Oak Nut, he gets his $25 back.
Motion made and passed. Eric will check on local trails for hiking and biking. Adjourned at Be
