Present: Sandy Schwartz, MaryAnn Bushaw, Jon Paul, Phil Reece, Craig Louthain, Bill LeFevre, Phil Reece, Jamie Beck, Eddie Beck, Robert Voll, Judi and Terry Nichols

Location: Cherry Valley Fire Station #3

Meeting started at 6:30PM.

Treasurer’s Report: Presented by Craig Louthain.

Past Events

Flagpoles: Bill will check into this.

Great Lakes: Two disciplinary actions will be discussed tomorrow.

CPR Training: Bruce Wyatt, 494-1141 is willing to come to our Tuesday troop meeting to do it.

Lincoln Pilgrimage (April 26-27):

Kiwanis Pancake Day (May 3): Had 4 Scouts and 3 adults. There was some confusion as to whether the boys got paid for the work or just received service hours. It was for only service hours. Pictures will be sent to the Courier.

Future Events

Swim Nights: One is scheduled for tomorrow. John Vermie will be there. Marcus Tryggestad plans to be there too. Everyone will do a swim test to use for summer camp to qualify as a swimmer, beginner, or nonswimmer. Should be useful for Triple P, too. Swim tags for a buddy board would be helpful for future swim events. (Council has none, but MaryAnn will look at Office Max.)

Leader Basics: No one is scheduled to attend this as of yet. There is one session available just for committee members.

Climbing dates: No new dates set yet. Venture crew is doing their own repelling, etc. Al Fredrickson will follow up on this.

Indianapolis Time Trials (Sunday, May 18): Troop will leave at 6am, return at 9pm. It’s a 5-hour drive there, 5 hours there, and then 5 hours back. Every youth has to have an adult responsible for him, as this is not a BSA-sanctioned event. Admission was $10 last year. See flyer for details. Scouts can use their Scout accounts to pay for this event. The troop needs to have cash to pay for admission.

Triple P (May 30, 31-June 1): To compete, the troop needs teams of Scouts. Registration is on the 30th, with mandatory meetings. Volunteers for teams must make a commitment, including which adults will accompany them, by May 20th. Phil Reece will coordinate this event and the teams. Hopefully, Ed Blondin will help as he did it last year and may have good suggestions.

Car Wash on June 7-8: Have to sign liability clause for McDonalds. Bill & Jamie will have supplies, and Bill will have everything set out for the troop (he will be out of town that weekend). The troop will clean up the Wal*Mart parking lot on 6/24 as a "thank you".

Summer 2003 - Philmont: Train tickets are bought. Adults will need a photo ID to board the train.

Summer 2003 – Canyon Camp (July 20-26, 2003): A Parent Information Night will be held on July 1st by Sandy to give information about camp. "Parent Night" at camp will be held on 7/23. Health forms are slowly coming in.

Woodbadge Training (Aug. 22-24 & Sept. 26-28): Sandy is registered.

Miscellaneous Business

Meeting Place: Tonight’s meeting was held at the fire station on Blackhawk Road. A tour was given to determine whether it would be a good location for future troop meetings. Thanks to Doug Hauer for the tour.

Super Fundraiser: MaryAnn is still checking on the elephant ears trailer for the Boone County Fair.

Troop Development: Sandy has done an excellent job along with Eddie Beck, SPL. One change – Silo Climbing campout is on August 29-31. Also, there is a very interesting tour of a junkyard if the troop can locate a bus to use for the tour. Sandy will check it out with Carol Conderman. The troop would also like to take a tour of a local business at night – any suggestions? Papa John’s – Eddie will check that. Rockford Register Star (Jon Paul will check this), Post Office, UPS, etc.

Florida Sea Base (summer, 2004):

We are on a waiting list for everything. Boundary Waters will be considered as an alternative.

District Annual Meeting: We need to consider whether to host this event next year. This fire station is already reserved for April 4th for this event. MaryAnn has been talking with Pack 181 from St. Rita’s as co-hosting the event. Last year they had space for 144 people with the room being about ¾ full. Gave 15 mini-lights and 2 cook stoves as prizes. Motion by chairman (very unkosher) to accept this. Passed. MaryAnn will let the District know our decision. Phil will check for notes used for this year’s event.

Rockford Junior Chariots: MaryAnn has no new information.

Record of Scouter Training/Service: MaryAnn would still like to have a record of everyone’s training, etc. ASAP.

Merit Badge Counselor List: Phil has a copy and is putting it into the Web site.

Old Flags: Will be donating to Council. Sandy will take them to the Council office.

Council Jr. Leader Training: No one is signed up for it.

New Business

Youth Protection: Tape is available at fire station. Several people have attended it already. MaryAnn will make a list of who has done it. It’s available on the Internet at: www.blackhawkscouting.org

Scouting Artwork Tour (May 7th): Patrick and Kevin Bushaw, as well as Alex Reece will volunteer for a special event on May 8th. Must wear full uniform. The public show is 5:30-8pm on 7th.

Adult OA Elections: The troop may select one person for it. Bob Voll will be doing his Ordeal this year (he was elected last year). Must have attended a summer camp within the last 2 years. Ed Blondin, Ron Benoy, MaryAnn Bushaw, Jon Decorie, Steve Fedor, Al Fredrickson, Craig Louthain, Jon Paul, Eric Schmidt, and Sandy Schwartz are eligible – Nominations were made. Eric was elected – Sandy will be the back up if Eric declines the nomination. Spring Conclave is June 6th- 8th.

T-Shirts: At PLC meeting, the Scouts recommended getting Royal Blue shirts this year. (The Philmont crews will be buying their own shirts.) Bill will get a price for the shirts, and Eddie will consult with the PLC about priority of color (shirts vs. an activity) and payment.
