Present: Terry White, Steve Horan, Deb Lindstrom, Sandy Schwartz, Dannette Holifield, Paul McCaffrey, Ron Benoy, Eric Schmidt, MaryAnn Bushaw, Phil Reece, Craig Louthain, Judi and Terry Nichols
Meeting started at 8:20.
Treasurer’s Report: Presented by Craig Louthain.
Past Events
Great Lakes: One disciplinary action was taken care of and one will be discussed in the near future.
Swim Nights: MaryAnn hopes to get the swim tags soon from OfficeMax.
Leader Basics: No one attended; Eric was on staff.
Art Show (May 7 & 8th): Pictures were submitted to the Council office for the Courier. We had 3 Scouts there, and we had the biggest group. Thanks to Kevin & Patrick & Alex, and parents.
Indianapolis Time Trials (Sunday, May 18): It was great, but a long day. The boys were allowed to climb in the military "hummers" and hold some artillery (not live). Lots of handouts. Parked inside.
Triple P (May 30-June 1): Very small turnout from entire District – maybe only 5 units or 60 people. Our troop had 6 adults and 5 scouts. Teams did very well – got a first place in peddling, and second place in packing & paddling. Ribbons will be coming later. The attending scouts want to do it again.
Adult OA Elections: Spring Fellowship was June 6-8th. Nathaniel, Bob Voll & Eric Schmidt are Ordeal.
Car Wash on June 7-8: Earned about $240 + matching.
Future Events
CPR Training: 5 people are registered for the refresher course on June 12. The full course is on June 18 & 19. There are 4 openings left in that one. The cost is $15 for the books.
BMX Clean up on June 22: There were multiple problems last year. A guy on a golf cart was giving orders inappropriately. The event went longer than usual with more people. A garbage can was set on fire. This is an open weekend for us this year. Rakes, gloves, and garbage bags are helpful. Eric will coordinate this.
July 4th Cherry Valley Parade: The troop will be marching in this.
July 5th PIT: Deb Lindstrom is coordinating.
Prairie du Chein: Cancelled, due to lack of interest.
Summer 2003 - Philmont: Train tickets are bought. Adults will need a photo ID.
Summer 2003 – Canyon Camp (July 20-26, 2003): Everything seems to be on track. Merit badge sign-up will be done individually during the next couple of weeks by Sandy and Dannette. Any written work for merit badges should be done ahead of time.
Woodbadge Training (Aug. 22-24 & Sept. 26-28): Sandy is registered, but the council indicates that the reservation is not paid for yet. There was some discussion about it, particularly a $50 deposit paid earlier. Sandy will decide whether she wants to proceed. The troop would eventually reimburse her.
Festa Italiana: Steve Horan is coordinating this event. Terry needs to call Paul Maffioli.
Rockford Junior Chariots: Dates will be set soon, by MaryAnn.
2004 District Annual Meeting: The District is glad that we will be hosting the event. The Blackhawk fire station is already reserved for April 4th for this event. MaryAnn has been talking with Pack 181 from St. Rita regarding possibly co-hosting the event. Info: prizes were donated for last year’s dinner.
Florida Sea Base (summer 2004):
We are on a waiting list. Sandy checked and found that we were 17th on the waiting list for the Bahamas Adventure. We are too low on the other lists to be realistically hopeful. Boundary Waters will be considered as an alternative.
Miscellaneous Business
Troop Resource Manual: The troop now has a copy of all 4 volumes in a looseleaf notebook.
Meeting Place: The troop is still able to meet at the current fire station, but the other station is an option for special events, a potluck, or regular meetings. No further action is needed at this time.
Super Fundraiser: MaryAnn is still checking on the elephant ears trailer for Boone County Fair or Fear Fest. Sandy heard of a fundraiser selling ice melts and another having to do with mulch.
Troop Development: The troop already had 2 new activities – a bike hike and an evening at Volcano Falls. The bike hike was fun, but could have been longer. The only problem: some of the riders didn’t have helmets. Volcano Falls was fun, and unorganized, which was okay. The scouts went in different directions, but they all seemed to know where they wanted to be. There was only one minor concern about behavior, but mostly the Scouts did well.
The majority of new activities have been well received. A silo climbing campout is scheduled for August 29-31. The other ideas being checked out is a tour of the Post Office (can only be toured during the daytime), a tour of a junk yard, and a tour of a local business (Jon Paul is checking the Rockford Register Star).
Record of Scouter Training/Service: MaryAnn would still like to have a record of everyone’s training.
Merit Badge Counselor List: Web site list is updated.
Old Flags: Will be donated to our Council. Sandy will take them to the Council office.
Council Junior Leader Training: No one is signed up for it.
Youth Protection: Tape is available at fire station. Several people have attended it already. MaryAnn will make a list of who has done it and check into completion cards.
T-Shirts: Terry N. is still gathering information – what sizes people need.
Eddie is looking into coupon books. Coupons from Eagle Supermarket will be extended for one year.
New Business
Sandy Schwartz’s brother is back from Iraq. Terry and Sandy will find a time for him to come talk to the Scouts.
August committee meeting is set up the same night as the Court of Honor (Aug. 12). Motion to move the Court of Honor to August 19th. Motion was passed. Committee meeting will be moved to Aug. 13 at 6:30pm. Phil will take notes that night.
Attendance: Question as to what to do about boys on the roster, but are not attending meetings, outings, etc. Motion to leave it up to the Scoutmaster’s discretion. Motion was passed.
Request for Volunteers: Scouts are needed to hand out water to runners at the Cherry Valley 8K Run on July 12. Time commitment is 2 hours or less. Terry will make a flyer.
