July 8, 2003

Present: Terry White, Steve Horan, Sandy Schwartz, Dannette Holifield, Paul McCaffrey, MaryAnn Bushaw, Phil Reece, Craig Louthain, Judi and Terry Nichols

Meeting started at 8:05.

Treasurer’s Report: Presented by Craig Louthain. This past month had more income than expenses. See attached report.

Past Events

Swim Nights: Mary Ann picked up the swim tags from OfficeMax. They seemed expensive with metal rings, so she will return them. We asked Terry White to procure some at Canyon Camp.

Car Wash on June 7-8: Earned about $240 + matching. The grant will take 6-8 weeks to arrive. Jamie recommended that the money earned during this event go into the Scout Accounts and the grant money would go into the troop’s account. Motion made and passed to accept Jamie’s recommendation.

CPR Training: Went well. It was a combination of First Aid & CPR – Medic First Aid. This is not certified by the Red Cross but is accepted by the BSA and many other groups. The refreshed course was only CPR, and it was infancy through adults.

BMX Clean Up: 23 people helped out. It was finished in about 2 hours, 15 minutes. The troop earned $500. The money will be put into the scouts’ accounts. Each scout and his parent who participated earned $43.48. Things went very smoothly.

July 4th Parade: 20 people participated, and it went very well. Thanks to Patrick Bushaw for drilling the scouts at the previous meeting and doing a great job of preparing the Troop. Participants included the following Scouts: Eddie Beck, Patrick Bushaw, Lucas Dwyer, Tyler McDowall, Matthew Louthain, Kevin Bushaw, Josh Dozal, Nick Horan, Derek Dwyer, Andrew Dozal. Advisors were Jamie Beck, Rick Beck, MaryAnn Bushaw, Craig Louthain, Phil Reece, Peggy Schuchard, Sandy Schwartz, and Terry White. A picture of the group will be given to the Historian.

Future Events

Summer 2003 - Philmont: Train tickets are bought. Adults will need photo ID’s.

Summer 2003 – Canyon Camp (July 20-26, 2003): Everything seems to be on track. Medicals have been coming in well. The 20 scouts have been divided into 3 patrols.

Woodbadge Training (Aug. 22-24 & Sept. 26-28): Sandy cannot attend.

Festa Italiana: Steve handed out a preliminary notice about it to everyone. We have made $1500 in the past, but this year they added one extra evening. Festa staff asked for us to suggest a new fee. The troop authorized Terry to negotiate a fee, starting at $2000 (down to $1800).

Rockford Chariots: Still in process of being organized.

2004 District Annual Meeting: MaryAnn has talked with St. Rita’s, and they thought the church would be available. However, Terry suggested we stay at Fire Station #3 and ask Pack 181 to assist us.

Florida Sea Base (summer 2004): In learning more about this (the Bahamas adventure), the scouts and adult advisors are the crew and work the ship. Staff from Sea Base will train you for one day. Scouts have to be 14 years old prior to a certain date. The troop is still interested, but more information is needed. MaryAnn will have David get more information.

Miscellaneous Business

Super Fundraiser: MaryAnn cannot get any word back from her source. Phil will also try to call. Terry also received a call requesting the troop to hand out flyers for Papa John’s, but Terry told him that this was not a good time. A contact in the Fall may be made – no details at this time. Steve received information on a fundraiser with Avon – sell cookie dough, t-shirts, sports items, and other misc. items. The profit margin appeared to be good.

Troop Development:

The committee has done a great job. Thanks!

Silo Climbing campout is on August 29-31. Also, the tour of a junkyard is cancelled because a bus cannot be located.

Record of Scouter Training/Service: MaryAnn would still like to have a record of everyone’s training, etc. ASAP. You know who you are. . . .

Merit Badge Counselor List: Web site list is updated. A few people are joining in.

Old Flags: The flags are now gone.

Youth Protection: The youth version is online. Adult tape is available at fire station.

T-Shirts: Terry N. will be ordering immediately.

New Business

August committee meeting is set for August 19th. Dannette will take the minutes that night.

Attendance: Question as to what to do about boys on the roster, but are not attending meetings, outings, etc. Motion to leave it up to the Scoutmaster’s discretion. Motion was passed.

Request for Volunteers:

Volunteers are needed for service at the Sloatman 8K Run in Cherry Valley on July 12. They’re needed to hand out water to runners. Time commitment is about 2 hours. Terry distributed information.

Need interpreter: We have a new scout whose parents only speak Spanish. MaryAnn has a contact with the pack who translates and a neighbor who may be able to help.

Eagle Board of Review: Bryan Tryggestad’s Eagle packet has arrived, and he needs a Board of Review within three months (by September 1). Brian Murphy will need one by September 16.

Donation: The Scout trailer had a hole in the tire and it was repaired. The donation of service was handled by Eric Schmidt. Zane West will be asked to write a thank you note.

Bob Voll recommended that a review of required activities be done at a future committee meeting.

Motion that one hour of the Wal*Mart clean-up be credited as a service hour. Motion was passed.

Web Site: Dannette & Phil have been working hard on keeping it up-to-date. Phil wondered if many people were using the site. It was recommended that an e-mail with a link be sent to everyone that it is updated. Pictures need to be updated.
