August 13, 2003
Present: Phil Reece, Bill LeFevre, Terry Nichols, Deb Lindstrom, Sandy Swartz, Ed Blondin, Eric Schmidt, Adam LeFevre, Judi Nichols
Meeting started at 8:10.
Treasurer’s Report: Presented by Phil Reece in Craig Louthain’s absence. This past month had more income than expenses. See attached report.
Past Events
Car Wash on June 7-8: $350 dollars was received from Wall Mart and has been deposited. The Venture Crew did not do their car wash. Since Wall Mart already had the money set aside, Jamie’s friend gave the $110 to the Troop. The committee decided last month that the money earned during the event should go into the Scout Accounts and the grant money would go into the troop account. The clean up of the parking lot at Wall Mart does count as 1 hour of service work.
Swim Night: Sandy will start setting it up, will pay for the whole thing all at once. Swim night will remain on Tuesday, keeping every Tuesday a scout night. The committee meeting will be moved to Monday night.
July 4th Parade: Deb Lindstrom will buy the general parade patches for the attending scouts. She will have them ready for court of honor.
Future Events
Summer 2003 - Philmont: Welcome back everyone. Programs at Philmont are year round. Eric Schmidt picked up tape from Philmont. 2005 trek will be by computer. Bill LeFevre still has to get money from some trekkers.
Summer 2003 – Canyon Camp (July 20-26, 2003): 6 scouts were written up. Matt Shanahan must have a parent with him at all times. Committee needs to document earlier and before it becomes serious. Ed Blondin will write a letter to the summer camp to apologize for how some of our scouts acted. Alan Reyna owes Sandy Schwartz $145 for summer camp. Eric Schmidt will help find out where money is for Alan. Sandy will start looking at new summer camps for 04. Committee will reduce it to 5 for PLC to choose.
Festa Italiana: Everything went well. Thanks to Steve Horan for the great job organizing it this year. Money has not been paid to the troop yet. Our contact for Festa is checking out paying us $2000. Thursday evening rained out. Rest of the clean up went well. Several families showed up to help clean while their sons leisurely walked around the Philmont Dude ranch. The families did a great job helping, thank you.
2004 District Annual Meeting: The banquet is the first week in April ‘04. Need to start planning in September. Bill LeFevre, Adam LeFevre, Eric Schmidt, Judy Nichols and possible Mary Ann Bushaw will be the sub committee. Phil Reece will talk with Grecian Horan to see if she will help too.
Florida Sea Base (summer 2004): Mary Ann Bushaw has already made calls to find out about getting certified in scuba. If we go there, all should be certified prior to leaving, otherwise too much time will be used getting certified. Need to determine number of crews/ number of people that can go. Also need to set a registration deadline and stick to it. Terry Nichols will talk Dave Bushaw about staying up late and talking on the internet with "Sara" to find out how many can go.
Miscellaneous Business
Super Fundraiser (5K or more into troop funds): Troop 411 is having problems with electrical on their trailer. Eric Schmidt feels the problem is the electrical is not there. Boone County is full on food and will not accept another vendor. Eric will check out who is running Freight Night. Phil Reece will talk with Freight Night to see if we can help out.
Jake at BMX would like to see us help with food tents at the next clean up. Phil will talk with them in January to see if we can work out something for troop funds.
The committee still needs to agree on doing any of them.
Troop Development Sub Committee: Need to reschedule troop elections. Sandy Swartz will decide what night to do it and clear it with Terry Nichols. Several other nights need to be rearranged. Sandy will clear the nights with Terry. A Native American awareness group out of Loves Park can come in and do an evening for the scouts. Group requests a $50 donation, committee agreed. Sandy will coordinate.
PLC wants someone to show weapons of Pilgrims and Indians and have a demonstration. Adam LeFevre will call Midway Village to check it out. Sandy will contact Terry Serrano (Trout) for any information.
John Swartz knows someone that knows a lot about Dutch oven cooking. Sandy will arrange a date with Terry Nichols for an in house demonstration.
Weblos night will be September 23. Sandy, Ed and Deb will be the sub committee to set it up. The outing is going to be Oct 25/26. Same people will arrange it.
Silo Camp Out: Sandy is running it. Silo does not have merit badge counselors for climbing. We will be climbing inside the silo. We have it from 1 – 3 pm on Saturday to our selves. Paul McCaffery is working on finding a climbing merit badge counselor to help anyone get a merit badge. There may be a time constraint to get all of it done in the two hours.
Record of Scouter Training/Service: MaryAnn would still like to have a record of everyone’s training, etc. ASAP. You know who you are. . . . Eric Schmidt.
Youth Protection: The youth version is online. It is somewhat slow, there are lots of video on it. You need to register name in order to get credit for it. It can be done as reference or registered. If you are looking for credit, make sure you register. A tape is available at fire station.
T-shits: Bill LeFevre did all of the work for Terry Nichols. Thank you Bill. Eric wants to look into polypro shirts for next year. The Class B troop shirts were 50/50, not sure about the crew shirts for Philmont.
New Business
Request for Volunteers at Sloatman 8K run: Had about 8 scouts and 5 adults attend. Need to verify that attending scouts got service hours. May look at troop going as one.
Need interpreter: We have a new scout whose parents only speak Spanish. MaryAnn has a contact with the pack who translates and a neighbor who may be able to help.
Eagle Board of Review: Bryan Tryggestad passed his board of review and paper work is on its way to Texas. We should hear back from them soon. Brian Murphy will be having his sometime this week. According to Mark Wellman, Terry White can not represent District at an Eagle Board of Review from our troop since he is part of our troop, he can represent the troop.
Web Site: Bill asked about keeping existing web site address. Committee wants to keep it. October or November is for renewal. R-World Communications in Loves Park is donating the disc space. Committee agreed to give them a receipt for the worth of the space for tax purposes. Phil Reece will handle.
Bike Hike: Eric Schmidt is planning the route.
Court of Honor: Nathanial Blondin was chosen by the PLC to MC the night. Terry N. will contact him to go over the itinerary. Phil Reece requested 15 minutes to show the troop web site. Sandy will check with John to see if the projector can be made available.
