Present: Phil Reece, Terry Nichols, Ed Blondin, Eric Schmidt, Judi Nichols, Paul McCaffrey, Craig Louthain, Dannette Holifield, Sandy Schwartz, Steve Fedor, Ron Benoy, Andrew Benoy (SPL), and MaryAnn Bushaw
Meeting started at 8:12pm
Treasurer’s Report: Presented by Craig Louthain. See attached report. Still waiting on check from Spud Hut and Festa Italiana.
Past Events
Swim Night: Sandy has sent the proposed dates and they were approved. They are on the troop calendar. Webelos are welcomed to these nights at $2 per person. Terry N. will get the lifeguards – John Vermie, Marcus Tryggestad, and Terry White.
Summer 2003 - Philmont: No new information.
Festa Italiana: Terry N. will call about the check.
Future Events
2004 District Annual Meeting: Gretchen Horan will assist with this. Sandy will talk with Pack 429 about the decorations they are making for their Blue & Gold Banquet. Gretchen Horan, Bill LeFevre, Adam LeFevre, Eric Schmidt, Judi Nichols and MaryAnn Bushaw will be the sub-committee
Florida Sea Base (Summer 2004): The lower end of the cost is $1200. There is no one committed to this yet, so a count of those interested need to be made immediately. Paul will call all eligible Scouts to see who is interested.
White Water Rafting (2004): Eric reviewed the expenses and activities done a few years ago. The costs equaled about $500 per person. Activities included rafting, repelling, the aircraft museum, and Mammoth Cave. First Class and Swimming merit badge were requirements. Ed Blondin is handling the planning for this. Dates and exact activities need to be decided soon.
Summer Camp 2004: Sandy is wondering whether we will have enough adults for going to an out-of-council camp for the newer boys. She has been checking into four different camps that got very good reviews from local people. Paul also had information on other camps he got from the Internet. Terry N. suggested talking with the Scouts about what things they would like in a camp (i.e. horses, pool, dining hall, etc.), and this might narrow down the possibilities. Sandy and Dannette are planning this.
Miscellaneous Business
Troop Development Sub-Committee:
The November weapons – couldn’t find anyone to do that. The Indian dancer is having possible heart problems and will contact the troop if his presentation may need to be changed. March 20 – we will be joining another troop to do black powder shooting at a campout (was originally on March 13th). The Scouts want to go skiing this year – possibly Fort McCoy (Whitetail Ridge). They have skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. $20 for lift & equipment or $13 for lift for boys. $23 for lift & equipment or $16 for lift only for adults. They have cabins. Tentative date is January 30th. Total cost will probably be around $40. The committee decided to make a reservation for about 20 people.
The Silo Campout: GARS does not have merit badge counselors. Dannette will check with the YMCA.
T-shirts: MaryAnn can do these.
Eagle Board of Review: Certificates were received for Bryan Tryggestad and Brian Murphy.
Bike Hike: Eric would not recommend Perryville+ again, due to too much time on public roads.
Eagle Coupon Books: Wasn’t worth it – just covered our costs.
Troop JLT: Was Cancelled, Terry N. to reschedule.
Xmas Wreaths: Sept. 30 – Nov. 4 wreath sales. Pick up is on Nov. 15th. Steve Fedor will help with distribution. Rose Wreath has maintained their prices. Ed will help Al this year. Last year we had trouble selling wreaths at the lot, so Al recommends that we order only 40 of the wreaths, 4 of the roping, and 4 of the 48" wreaths. Suggestion: buy wreaths for lot from the other distributor (Kingma) that is much fuller and more expensive. Ed suggested that Webelos 2 from his pack are allowed to sell door to door and the monies be held in Scout accounts for when they join the troop. The troop thought this was a good idea and Ed will work on that.
Chili-o-ree: Went well except for cooking chili. The troop did not participate in the chili competition. Cancellations were a big problem, 9 out of 20 people did not go after the troop paid for them.
Xmas Trees: Terry N. circulated his proposal for an order for trees, which is very similar to past years. He is ordering a few bigger trees. A motion was made and passed to order as suggested.
Museum of Science & Industry: An opportunity is available for $40 per person to stay overnight. Dannette will explore this.
Troop 411: They said we are welcomed to use the trailer, but they wouldn’t recommend elephant ears.
New Business
Chestnut Mountain: Lift ticket costs are equal to the day of the month during the month of December, per Eric. (ie., Dec. 1 = $1; Dec. 15 = $15; Dec. 31 = $31)
Patrol Coaches: Most coaches are active with their patrols. It is still considered a good idea. Some new assignments were discussed to make it run more smoothly.
There is no outing scheduled in November. The scouts voted-out the campout at the Tree Lot.
Training: Training is at Alpine Lutheran Church tomorrow night for Troop Committee Members only. MaryAnn turned in all our knots and hopes you will be at Roundtable next month to receive them.
