Future Events
2004 District Annual Meeting: No new information. [Gretchen Horan will assist with this. Sandy will talk with Pack 429 about the decorations they are making for their Blue & Gold Banquet. Gretchen Horan, Bill LeFevre, Adam LeFevre, Eric Schmidt, Judi Nichols and MaryAnn Bushaw will be the sub-committee.]
Florida Sea Base (Summer 2004): Eight people committed to it, but no date was set. It will not happen this year.
White Water Rafting (2004): Ed Blondin stated the tentative date is the third week of July. The costs will still be about $500.
Summer Camp 2004: Sandy is waiting for 5 brochures and 6 more who have also promised information. Travel is ranging from 1.5 to 4 hours away, and prices range from $130-$190. Once the information is gathered, Sandy will present it to PLC. Sandy will try to narrow them down and have Scouts each present one of them.
Miscellaneous Business
Troop Development Sub-Committee: Skiing is arranged for January 30th-February 1st. The troop is staying at Dannette Hollifield’s vacation house, which is 45 minutes from Fort McCoy.
Troop JLT: No available weekends this year.
Xmas Wreaths: Wreaths are ordered. Steve and Al are picking them up. We sold 360 this year, which is less than previous years. (Sales have dropped the past two years.)
Xmas Trees: They have been ordered and will be delivered November 22nd. The bailer needs to be fixed.
Chestnut Mountain at Galena: Eric will announce this to the troop to see if there is any interest. Lift ticket costs are equal to the day of the month during the month of December, per Eric. (i.e., Dec. 1 = $1; Dec. 15 = $15; Dec. 31 = $31)
Patrol Coaches: That is going well now. Big thanks to Bob Voll on the knots. Phil will check on the American Heritage information. MaryAnn will check with Patrick for information.
Silver Beaver Awards: Nominations are welcomed at this time. They must be submitted by December 1. Phil has this year’s current applications. Please ask for, complete, and return to Phil.
District Award of Merit: Nominations are due in March.
Unit Spirit Award: Nominations are coming up for the same date.
Troop 181 Web Site: Motion was made and passed to continue the web site by paying an annual $25 fee.
Health Forms: When they are removed from the book downstairs, you need to be careful where you put them. They recently blew out of the trailer and were on the ground. Hopefully, they were all found. Everything was updated as of a few weeks ago; the book is current.
Dual Charter: There has been some discussion of having a dual charter for the troop with both the Fire Station and St. Rita’s parish. MaryAnn is part of the Catholic Scouting board, which has decided that all parishes should have both a pack and a troop. St. Rita’s has no troop, but would be considering starting a troop. The troop can do some service projects at the church or represent Scouting on Scout Sunday. The church could provide a location for potluck dinners. Other troops have approached this parish. The question was raised about the responsibilities and rights of the chartering organization. For example, if the troop folds, does all the equipment stay with the fire station, or does it get split with the church? Terry will research this information and write a letter to the parish. The letter will be reviewed and approved by the committee prior to it being sent.
Webelos Overnight: It was a good event. Thanks to Sandy for a great job! It was very well organized and our Scouts were great hosts!! The only negative was that several of the visitors were already committed to other troops due to older brothers. Sandy knows of 6 Webelos joining our troop.
Religious Awards: Two of our boys – Nick Horan and Patrick Bushaw will be receiving religious awards on Scout Sunday at St. Peters.
