Surprise:
Pack 600 had a meeting on the 4th Monday of November at Zion Lutheran Church at 7pm. Dave Leach, Cubmaster and Nick Horan shaved their heads as a result of a challenge. The evening went well. Troop 181 was represented by several scouts and scouters.Treasurer’s Report: Presented by Craig Louthain. See attached report.
Past Events
Swim Night: We are in good shape for swim nights. Dates are scheduled. Two lifeguards are arranged – Marcus Tryggestad and Terry White.
Summer 2003 - Philmont: No new information about expenses or possible credit. Bill is still working on this. We are waiting for MaryAnn’s brother to furnish a doctor’s excuse for not going. It may be too late now!
Future Events
2004 District Annual Meeting: There was a brief meeting tonight, but that subcommittee needs to start work.
[Gretchen Horan will assist with this. Sandy will talk with Pack 429 about the decorations they are making for their Blue & Gold Banquet. Gretchen Horan, Bill LeFevre, Adam LeFevre, Eric Schmidt, Judi Nichols and MaryAnn Bushaw are the sub-committee.]
Florida Sea Base (Summer 2004): The dates did not work well, so this has been dropped.
White Water Rafting (2004): Ed Blondin got further information from Rivers, the place visited last time. They will give us a 25% discount, but the deposit has to be 50% of the total cost ($90). This is if the deposit is made by December 31st. Eric will call Scouts and ask for a deposit. The committee moved and passed a nonrefundable deposit of $75; it is needed next week. The goal is for 25 registrations. The trip is tentatively planned for the third week in July (leave 7/17/04- return 7/25/03).
Summer Camp 2004: No new information
(Sandy is waiting for 5 brochures and 6 more who have also promised information. Travel is ranging from 1.5 to 4 hours away, and prices range from $130-$190. Once the information is gathered, Sandy will present it to our PLC. Sandy will try to narrow them down and have different Scouts present one each.)
Miscellaneous Business
Troop Development Sub-Committee: Skiing is arranged for January 30th-February 1st. The troop is staying at Dannette Hollifield’s vacation house, which is 45 minutes from Fort McCoy. (The calendar is confusing on this trip.)
Xmas Wreaths: There are still about 30 wreaths left in the trailer. They need to be put out for the public to see. Price can be reduced this weekend, but not below our costs.
Xmas Trees: We sold a little over 200 trees and have made our expenses. There are about 180 still on the lot. There have been accounting difficulties. Dan repaired the bailer and it works very well. Thanks Dan! We are almost out of netting. We started with about 8 rolls.
Silver Beaver Awards: No known nominations were made.
District Award of Merit: Nominations are due in March.
Unit Spirit Award: Nominations are coming up for the same date.
Troop 181 Web Site: Bill did pay for the web site. Phil tried to see how many hits were made on it. Now it is 1305 hits, compared to 623 last December 12.
Dual Charter: Andy Murray was quite flustered about the idea. The original idea was for the church to have it’s own troop. It would have to be discussed at length if we wished to pursue it, and could possibly be done. This will be discussed at the next committee meeting. People with opinions (pro or con) must speak up.
Christmas Party: Plan for 40-50 people.
Religious Awards: Two of our boys – Nick Horan and Patrick Bushaw will be receiving religious awards on Scout Sunday at St. Peters.
Up-Coming Events: New Leaders’ Training; Lake Ripley (1/16/04); Klondike Derby
Welcome Home Kevin Schmidt!!! Kevin has been in the military and is an Eagle Scout of Troop 181. He will be serving as an assistant Scoutmaster. He also needs a job – any leads?
