Summer 2003 - Philmont: Philmont is saying that we owe them for one other camper. Bill is waiting for the other troop to determine what they paid. It will be decided at a separate time.
Skiing: They had a great time!! The house worked well. There was plenty of things to do. It was very relaxing as there was no set time schedule. The scouts want to go back next year.
Future Events
Swim Night: Marcus will be there tomorrow, and Sandy confirmed it with the school.
2004 District Annual Meeting:
Andy needs a budget for the dinner ASAP. The committee is still working on this. The committee moved and passed to charge $12 in advance and $16 at the door. Date – April 4; Time – 3:30 pm for registration, 4:00 pm for meeting. Gretchen Horan will head the subcommittee. Pack 429 will donate their decorations from their Blue & Gold Banquet. [Gretchen Horan, Bill LeFevre, Adam LeFevre, Eric Schmidt, Judi Nichols and MaryAnn Bushaw are the sub-committee.]
Florida Sea Base : It was decided to try for the sea base in the summer of 2006 and try for Philmont in 2005. Phil will be working on this.
White Water Rafting (2004): No new information this month. Ed will be handing out payment coupons next week. Last payment is due about the beginning of June. The total cost is about $550 per person. There are 8 adults going, and their payment needs to be decided at next month’s meeting.
Eric reported that 22 people signed up to go as of this date. Eric paid a deposit for 23 people, but we have only paid half of the whole cost. The final cost may vary some. These dollars are just for the rafting. The troop still has the rest of the trip to determine.
Ed Blondin got further information from Rivers, the place visited last time. They will give us a 25% discount, but the deposit has to be 50% of the total cost ($90). This is if the deposit is made by December 31st. Eric will call Scouts and ask for a deposit. The committee moved and passed a nonrefundable deposit of $75; it is needed next week, 12/17/03. The goal is for 25 registrations. The trip is tentatively planned for the third week in July (leave 7/17/04- return 7/25/03).
Summer Camp 2004: Registered for June27-July 3 at Camp Ingawanis near Waterloo, IA. The troop will need to leave early Sunday morning to get there by 1:30. The troop paid a $50 deposit. The troop can use their platform tents or use their own tents. Each scout has to pay $25 by Feb 3. By March 15, Sandy needs to turn in the health forms, roster, and merit badge requests. The committee motioned and passed that the troop will pay for the adults ($25 per person).
Troop Development Committee: Upcoming events include Mar 30 - Plug & Pellet Shooting Range (6pm-7pm; need to bring our own shot guns; 13-25 cents per target). Motion passed that the troop will pay for 4 targets and 4 shells per scout. Scouts can pay for more if they need them. Sandy will find out whether we should buy our own shells. March 12-14 – campout at Rock Run Long Rifle Club (cost is $4 per person). April 3 – Hunger Connection (helping to pack food 9am-Noon). Ron Benoy is reserving Anderson Woods for pioneering project. The troop needs possible wood for projects – Sandy will contact John Lindstrom. May 12 (Wed) – going to a dress rehearsal at Belvidere Community Center – 8-10pm.
Miscellaneous Business
Tax Return:Craig said we should review our files – we should have a tax-exempt number which means that we do not have to file a tax return.
New Scouts: Three Webelos Scouts went skiing with us, and all 3 are intending to join the troop. A total of 5 Webelos Scouts are known to have plans to join our troop.
Phil will contact Gretchen to finalize budget for District Dinner and get the information to Andy.
There is a charge for software and the package for a database to update the scouting software TroopMaster. There are many free packages to update it from the Web. There was a concern that one place asked for the social security numbers of members, but all agreed to not include this information. Phil estimates that there will be about $150 fee altogether.
Ripley New Scout Training: The week requested was already booked, so the committee selected Saturday, May 1-2, as a new date. Terry Nichols will contact Dave Walling to reserve that. The troop will go up Saturday morning.
BMX Track: Phil has talked with Lisa, who works with Jake, and she will talk with Jake as to exactly what they want the troop to do. The clean-up on Sunday is where all the money goes into the scout accounts. The track requested some possible adult help in running concession stands. Any money made will go into the troop account.
