Past Events

Summer 2003 - Philmont: [Philmont is saying that we owe them for one other camper. Bill is waiting for the other troop to determine what they paid.] No new information.

2004 District Annual Meeting: The Dinner was a great success. A big thanks to Gretchen Horan for coordinating this event! A record of expenses is being compiled. Andrew Benoy also did a wonderful job leading the Scouts during the meeting.

OA Elections: On March 23, the Scouts’ election was completed. OA Fellowship is scheduled for June 4-6, 2004. The adults elected one adult this night.

March 12-14: Campout at Rock Run Long Rifle Club: It was pretty cold for camping.

March 30: Plug N Pellet Range: Was a fantastic event despite the cold, rainy weather.

April 3: Hunger Connection: Had a great turnout! And the Scouts were very well behaved and made a great impression. We will do it again in July.

Show & Do: Five people attended it.

Future Events

Swim Night: Webelos scouts are coming tomorrow night. Marcus will be there.

Florida Sea Base (2005): A new payment was needed, so it was decided to register for a "minimal" crew. Eric sent a check via certified mail. We are signed up for 6 people at this time; maximum 8 allowed.

White Water Rafting (2004): The meeting to determine recommendations for adult costs did not occur. They will meet tomorrow at swim night and then make a decision with available leadership. The total estimated cost is still $550 per person. A decision regarding final charges needs to be ready for the Court of Honor.

Summer Camp (June 27-July 3, 2004): 27 Scouts and 9/10 adults are going. We do not have enough tents for everyone. To rent the tents, it will cost about $10 per person. A motion was made, seconded, and passed that the troop pays the extra expense for the tents.

Troop Development Committee:

April 13, 20, 23-25: Pioneering project at Anderson Woods. Eric is looking for spars. The entire project is lashings, so this needs to be carefully planned. Eric will also look for rope or twine. Will also do the pioneering merit badge (Terry White is counselor). Andrew will go visit Russ Anderson, or call him to confirm arrangements.

May 1-2: Lake Ripley has been confirmed for New Scout Training.

May 12: Going to a dress rehearsal at Belvidere Community Center – 8-10pm.

New: The Scouts indicated that they want to learn signals for survival at a May meeting. Terry White will coordinate this. (Lucas & Caleb’s idea)

New: There is a new planning meeting this Saturday from 8-10 am with the Scouts. Anyone interested can come.

Miscellaneous Business

Quality Unit Award: The District is asking that Committees look at these qualifications so they can attempt to meet them better this year. One of the requirements is that 50% of the adults need to be trained. Since we have a number of older boys who are now adults and who will probably not get trained, we need to train as many of our active adults as possible. The other area that we need to improve is the number of service hours we do. We did some last year, but we did not keep a record. For example, we did 3 hours (times the number of people) with the Hunger Connection last Saturday. The troop use to give beads for service projects and kept track of them. The hours are currently included in the points system. There is some question as to what are considered service hours.

April is Youth Protection Month, which means that is when the films are shared with the troop. The actual training is April 15th at Grace Lutheran Church at Roundtable (7-8:30 pm).

The Troop may wish to explore on-line checking via our account at Alpine Bank.

Ken Hoxie took a tent home to dry, and it was destroyed by the wind. (It blew up on the roof of a neighbor’s garage.) The troop needs to replace the tent. The committee feels that the loss of the tent was due to Mother Nature, rather than any negligence on the Scouter’s part.

Does anyone know where our big coffee pot is? It was at Lake Ripley, per Eric.

May 21-23 - Spring Camporee: Cost is $8 per person. It is at Camp Canyon. They are asking each person to bring a can of food for a food pantry.

Bill LeFevre was approached again about moving the troop’s meetings to the other fire station. This will be discussed at the next meeting.

Gretchen found a resource to do new hats for everyone. She will sew the patches on the hats and then embroider the troop’s number on them. We need to order new patches to put on the hats. The cost would be $6.75 for each hat plus $1.40 for each patch. Gretchen recommended taking payment at the time of the orders. Then the troop would order a gross and charge the members $8 per hat. This way would not draw so much on our treasury.

New Scarves: When new ones are made, they need to be larger. The most recent ones were smaller than ones made previously.

BMX Track: Need volunteers to help man the food tent.
