August 16, 2005

Present: Phil Reece, Craig Louthain, Sandy Schwartz, Eric Schmidt, Terry Nichols, Ken Hoxie, Ryan Lambert

Meeting started at 8:20 PM

Treasurer’s Report: Craig presented the report and answered questions.

Past Events

Midwest Regional Extrication Competition (May 21-22, 2005): We agreed to do it again next year. However, are there points or Scout Account money to be earned? This needs to be discussed again to consider an advantage to those who worked it. Further, is it open to everyone to take advantage of?

Discussed doing points, or scout dollars. Will look at it again later.

BMX Food Tent (June 16-19, 2005): It is the weekend we leave for the Boundary Waters. Need to have schedule ready for family night on March 22nd. Phil to email out schedule. We need to ask for corn roaster. Only 3 people have signed up for it. There is a sign-up sheet on the Website. Pizza Hut has asked to run their food tent with us. ($135 for rental of pizza oven for 3 days.) Phil will discuss this with Duane Murphy of Pizza Hut. We will sell Pizza Hut pizza by the slice, and Baskin Robbins Bold Breeze. Look to wrap-up expenses and final accounting by the August committee meeting. We need a clarification of health department rules and a point system for youth workers. Can anyone work it?

Jake has received the check. Phil did a review of what food costs versus what it is sold for. Everything looks good. Need to be careful about how much food is purchased so we do not through out or give away as much. Discussed doing points or scout dollars for the scouts that worked.

BMX Clean Up (June 19, 2005): We do not have to pick up every cigarette butt in the grass. We need every available person not going to Boundary Waters! Only 7-youth and 8-adults worked the clean-up. We worked until 7:20 pm, and it wasn’t the best job we’ve done. We got a check for $500 before we left, which divides-out to $33.33 each.

Talked with Jake, he is happy with the clean up we did this year, even though we are not. He felt bad that vendors were still there while we were cleaning up.

First Aid/CPR Certifications:

Summer Camp (July 10 - 16, 2005): Had some problems with payments at the camp, they got our registration wrong. This has been corrected.

Festa Italiana (Aug 5-8): Steve Horan is organizing it. Sign-up sheet is posted. Steve will start calling people. Paul Maffioli has been contacted and everything is a go. Steve has a plan about limiting scouts not driving golf carts. Steve needs to do all his recruiting at the next few troop meetings.

Two no shows. Suggestions about having scout and parent work together, too many scouts walking around not working. Got some grief from them about using carts to move heavy bags to empty dumpster. Should make sure a truck is there to move bags around. Two were overflowing. Limit first shifts; add more people to late shifts. Maybe start earlier for morning shift. Look at picking up scouts from the fire station. Look for new person to run it next year.

Florida Sea Base (Aug. 7-14, 2005): Still looking for people. Have 2 confirmed boys and 2 adults. We need at least 6 people, so it will be opened to the District after 12/31/04. It was brought up at Roundtable and there is 1 possible recruit. Need to look at what troop pays for adults. Still need to have committee look at how much the troop will pay for adults, several suggestions for 50%. There are 3 scouts and 2 adults going. We could take three more people, including one adult. The adults have agreed to pick up any costs over $500, which the troop would cover. A motion was made for the troop to pick up 50% of the costs. Motion failed. A motion was made for the troop to pick up $500 for each adult, motion passed. Still looking for one to three more people to go. One scout did not show up cost troop $700.

Future Events

Bike Hike/Camp (Sep 9-11): Eric will put together an announcement.

Wreath Sales (Sep27): Paul will have paperwork ready in September.

Troop JLT (Oct 1): Terry will put together a plan and recruit people to help out.

Fall Camp-O-Ree at Camp Grant (Oct 7-9): at the Rockford Airport. There is an announcement on the on-line Courier. Aircamp. Numbers have been called in, estimating 20 youth and 5 adults. We can add people at the original rate, $15 per person. No penalty if numbers drop. Early deposits paid for equipment and infrastructure deposits, i.e. port-a-potties. A weblos den is asking to stay with us, they have to be with a troop. Weblos will bring their own adults and do their own activities, not troop activities. They will bring own food and equipment; they are their own unit staying with us.

Weblos Overnighter (Oct 22-23): will be at a new place. McCormick wants us out by noon.

Miscellaneous Business

Discipline agreements: Derek needs to get the new patrol (Stallions) to sign the agreements at their parent information night. Stallions have not been completed. Need to get sheets to Derek.

Training:

Wood Badge: Next course C-24-05 is August 26-28 and Sept 30 – Oct 2. Paul McCaffrey wants to attend. He needs the prerequisites (New Leader Essentials and Boy Scout Leader Specific [5-sessions] training). Ken Hoxie & Steve Horan want to take the local training. Who else wants Woodbadge? The Council is in danger of canceling the course, due to poor registration. If anyone is interested in it, they need to sign up quickly. The course for 2006 is definitely cancelled. Craig, Phil and Paul are still thinking of signing-up. Craig paid a deposit. Steve and Ken will not be participating. Paul is undecided. Four positions left to run this year.

Leader Specific: Next session starts in September 2005. Paul McCaffery has completed is. Greg Sparks and Dannettee Holifield still need to attend the campout session. Ken and Steve need to finish training.

Fast Start: Vicki still needs to do it.

Troop Advisors: Ed is collecting adult volunteers for Patrol Coaches, and coaches for the all leadership positions.

Uniform Inspection: The PLC talked about it tonight and decided to move it to the Fall, due to the troop moving to Class B uniforms for summer in just a few weeks. Will probably change from B to A in September.

New Business

Popcorn: Still working on thank-you letter. New form for October sales due October 1, if we are not selling popcorn we need to tell them why

TroopmasterWe can spend the $130 to get new Troopmaster and dot com. Need to get FTP site before purchase. Will use the 90-day trial. The new version coming up may allow multiple level passwords. Will not be able to start on it until August.

Secretary: Judi Nichols has resigned as the troop secretary. Still need new secretary.

Wreath Trailer: Still need to rewire trailer that we borrow for wreath pick-up. Looking at August. We need to set a date. Phil, Eric and Bob will do it in the next couple of weeks.

Tree Lot: Troop has 32 Christmas stands; Eric bought them for 25 cents each. We can sell for $5, plus. Al Fredrickson ran it last year, with help from Paul. Ed and Lois Blondin did not decline running it. Look at increasing firs to 70 - 75. Keep total at 400. Look at starting schedule earlier in the day, say 4:00 PM.

Announcements Needed: Bike Hike (Eric), Weblos Overnighter (Sandy), Troop JLT (Terry), Air Camp (Phil), Mid Evil Times (Ed), Religious Retreat (Mary Ann), Sporting for Clay (Terry, need to clarify date), Den Chief Training (Mary Ann).

Brad Cowdries: Send Brad Cowdries something from troop. Sounds like he got a bacterium from summer camp that has built up fluid around lungs.

Benoy's collected $326 and a $50 gas card. Mary Ann will get gift cards.
