October 11, 2005

Present: Phil Reece, Steve Horan, Ed Blondin, Lois Blondin, Dannette Holifield, Robert Voll, Brian Murphy, Richard Lambert, Terry Nichols, Judi Nichols, Mary Ann Bushaw, Ken Hoxie, Paul McCaffrey.

Meeting started at 8:10 PM

Treasurer’s Report: Craig's Grandmother died. The troop will send a condolence card.

Past Events

Benoy Update: There is the possibility of a fundraiser at their Belvidere church. Mary Ann mentioned a few men in Scouting who may be able to help Mark Rauschenberger and Don Burrows.

First Aid/CPR Certifications: Whoever needs it should get their name(s) to Eric Schmidt.

Wreath Sales (Sept. 27): Paul is ready to handout flyers on 9/27. Some prices will go up slightly; due to supplier increases. Paul will view cost of each size compared to last year and he will make a suggestion for selling prices for this year. Boys will receive a patch with 10-or-more wreaths ordered. All orders need to be turned-in by November 1st. The pick-up date is the 19th

Webelos Open House (Sept. 27): Thank you to Ryan Lambert who acted as SPL for the night. Two of the guests said it was very well organized. One unit requested a den chief. Also, there were some visitors who are considering transferring to our troop, but MaryAnn suggested they try their own unit a little longer and come visit us again later, if needed. We had 23 Webelos scouts visit (about half were 1st-year and half were 2nd year Webelos scouts). There are a couple committee people from another Pack. Sandy thanked MaryAnn, Brian, Dan Murphy, and others, who helped. From initial returns, the Troop should receive enough new scouts to form a new patrol.

Troop JLT (Oct. 1):. We had 9 Scouts and 3 adults at MacQueen Forest Preserve. It went very well.

Fall Camp-O-Ree at Camp Grant (Oct. 7-9): at the Rockford Airport. There is an announcement on the on-line Courier. AirCamp. Numbers have been called in, estimating 20 youth and 5 adults. We can add people at the original rate, $15 per person. No penalty if numbers drop. Early deposits paid for equipment and infrastructure deposits, i.e. port-a-potties. A webelos den is asking to stay with us; they have to be with a troop. Webelos will bring their own adults and do their own activities, not troop activities. They will bring own food and equipment; they are their own unit staying with us. Two Webelos dens will be attending with the troop. They will meet us at the Fire station. Aviation and Safety merit badge will be offered. Permission slips will need to be filled-out for those planning on taking airplane rides. Need to find out names of Webelos attending and find out if they need to pay with the troop. There are roster to be completed (Sandy & Terry will coordinate Troop & Dens and Crew).

A couple of adults were on the local news as "walk-bys." It was OK for a camporee, but none of our Scouts were able to fly. (Only 15 of 30 pilots came; only 292 scouts of a hopeful 500 got to fly.) Terry felt the activities were more geared towards the younger Cub Scouts. Events were not timely in starting and ending. Religious services were excellent. The price seemed excessive for what we got. The static displays did not live up to the advertisements. The troop can explore other options if the boys are interested in air activities.

Webelos Overnighter (Nov. 5 & 6): We will use MacQueen F.P. We’re checking on cots being available. Sandy is still recruiting Scouts for staff. She has only 4 boys and 4 adults going at this time. At the next Troop meeting, Sandy would like help planning this event.

Miscellaneous Business

Discipline agreements: Derek needs to get the new patrol (Stallions) to sign the agreements at their parent information night. Stallions have not been completed. Need to get sheets to Derek.

Training:

Wood Badge: Craig is done with the classes and is working on his Ticket.

Leader Specific: Ken will be making-up his missed sessions from last year. Going this weekend. Vicki went last Wednesday.

Fast Start: Do it on-line; or set a date.

Troop Advisors: We have two coaches for each patrol. Eric is putting notebooks together for them.

Uniform Inspection: Uniform inspection will be discussed at the next PLC meeting. SPL will put it on his agenda.

Future Events

Popcorn: Still working on thank-you letter. New form for October sales is due October 1. We are selling popcorn, but Ken may have conflicts with his time, and needs help with orders. We made a good amount of money on consignment sales. Ken is looking for ideas for places to sell, and he needs help at these locations. Individual sales start on October 15th. Ken will not be available after November 1st. If it is after October 15th, Ed Blondin can help.

Ken needs to give Phil an announcement for the website.

TroopmasterWe can spend the $130 to get new Troopmaster and dot com. Need to get FTP site before purchase. Will use the 90-day trial. The new version coming up may allow multiple level passwords. Will not be able to start on it until August. We’re leaving this item for Phil to discuss. He is talking with John Vermie to let us test the web capabilities. Phil will try it out.

Secretary: Judi Nichols has resigned as the troop secretary. Still need a new secretary! Thank-you to Judi for helping out tonight.

Tree Lot: Troop has 32 Christmas stands; Eric bought them for 25 cents each. We can sell for $5, plus. Al Fredrickson ran it last year, with help from Paul. Ed and Lois Blondin did not decline running it. Look at increasing firs to 70 - 75. Keep total at 400. Look at starting schedule earlier in the day, say 4:00 PM. Ed is thinking about taking on this role and will confirm later. Bill LeFevre will contact Lon regarding dumpster and trailer. Trees are ordered. They may not have more firs for us to order, but Harold will contact someone else regarding more firs. Cost of trees has gone up $.50 each. Eric will reserve our usual area at Perryville & Harrison.

Ed will do this again. Tree selling techniques will be presented November 15th.

Announcements Needed: Mid Evil Times (Sandy), Den Chief Training (MaryAnn). Should be able to do both the Webelos overnighter and Mid Evil Times on November 5th. Phil needs to find someone to coordinate MidEvil Times trip. Event is 10am to 12:30 pm. Costs were discussed. A motion was made that the Scouts and adults in uniform each pay $15 for this event. Motion was passed. Veterans Day Parade, Tree Lot Set Up, Yard Rake. Den Chief Training is November 12th. MaryAnn will submit information for the website.

Award for Marion Elvin for help in troop. Motion made and passed. Get a gift certificate from Kegel Motorcycle Company, $40. Eric will take care of this.

New Business

Church Wreath: Paul will order a wreath for the church after asking them what size they would like. We will also ask about giving them a tree. They are more interested in two smaller (20 or 26") wreaths than a tree. They will let us know prior to the 18th.

Church Service Project: Ed asked the troop to think about doing a service project for the church. Terry suggested that we help with the men’s club as this group was instrumental in getting us into the church. There is a men's club dinner every month; that is on the calendar. We were just informed that the Men’s Club needs help with serving and clean up, because they will be short some of their members. Paul McCaffrey can be there and will bring 4 kids to help; Ed will be there with his scouts; a couple other scouts may help too. They need to be there at 4:30-4:45 pm. Phil will contact Bill Ziemke to coordinate everything. A spring service project will also be considered.

Jamie Boon Yard Rake: Bill LeFevre is organizing this.

Tree Lot Set Up (Nov. 12): Time is 9-10:30 am. Then we go to the Veteran’s Day Ceremony.

Veterans Day Parade (Nov. 12): Terry got a phone call from Nancy Belt. He committed the Troop. Scouts will be carrying the official Colors. More information will follow.

Web Site Registration: Registration with DotEasy is $25 and is due next month. John Vermie can get the domain name registered for $15. The troop moved and passed a motion to have John Vermie handle the registration of our website name. Further, there is some discussion about switching the website to John's server. There is risk whether we stay with the current server or switch to John's server. Need to discuss more at next meeting.

Pastor Kim's last service is October 23, and it would be good to have Scouts at the church service.
