Present: Phil Reece, Judi Nichols, Brian Murphy, Bob Voll, Eric Schmidt, Sandy Schwartz, Gretchen Horan, Richard Lambert, Lois Blondin, Ed Blondin, Paul McCaffrey, Bill LeFevre, Terry Nichols, Mary Ann Bushaw, Marcus Tryggestad, and Belinda Cowdrey as secretary.

Meeting started at 8:10 PM

Treasurer’s Report: Craig presented the financial report late in the meeting.

Past Events

First Aid/CPR Certifications: Whoever needs it should get their name(s) to Eric Schmidt, or nothing will be arranged.

Wreath Sales (Sept. 27): Paul is ready to handout flyers on 9/27. Some prices will go up slightly; due to supplier increases. Paul will view cost of each size compared to last year and he will make a suggestion for selling prices for this year. Boys will receive a patch with 10-or-more wreaths ordered. All orders need to be turned-in by November 1st. The pick-up date is the 19th. Still missing a few order forms, Paul is expecting some phone-in orders. It was mentioned at the last troop meeting that the scouts would get $3.00 per wreath sold into their scout accounts and $4.00 for those over $20.00. Paul mentioned that last year it was only $2.00 and $3.00 respectively and asked what we needed to do. Mr. Nichols said that we needed to honor what was mentioned to the boys last week. Also, Steve Fedor will be helping Paul with the wreaths. Pick-up will be at Steve's house from 2-4:00.

Webelos Overnighter (Nov. 5 & 6): We will use MacQueen F.P. We’re checking on cots being available. Sandy is still recruiting Scouts for staff. She has only 4 boys and 4 adults going at this time. At the next Troop meeting, Sandy would like help planning this event. Went well. Restroom facilities were a problem (smelly outhouses), but it will be planned earlier next year so the indoor water (flush toilets) would still be turned-on. We have already put in our reservation for 10/21-23/2006 at MacQueen. The next one will be a whole weekend campout for the invited staff; arrive Friday - leave Sunday. Webelos will show up Saturday morning and leave early Sunday morning.

Miscellaneous Business

Discipline agreements: Derek needs to get the new patrol (Stallions) to sign the agreements at their parent information night. Stallions have not been completed. Need to get sheets to Derek. These were worked on tonight with the Stallions and the majority of them were turned-in.

Training:

Wood Badge: Craig is done with the classes and is working on his Ticket.

Leader Specific: Ken will be making-up his missed sessions from last year -- going this weekend. Vicki went last Wednesday.

Fast Start: Do it on-line; or set a date.

Troop Advisors: We have two coaches for each patrol. Eric is putting notebooks together for them.

Uniform Inspection: Uniform inspection will be discussed at the next PLC meeting. SPL will put it on his agenda. This will be discussed next week at the PLC meeting.

TroopmasterWe can spend the $130 to get new Troopmaster and dot com. Need to get FTP site before purchase. Will use the 90-day trial. The new version coming up may allow multiple level passwords. Will not be able to start on it until August. We’re leaving this item for Phil to discuss. He is talking with John Vermie to let us test the web capabilities. Phil will try it out.

Award for Marion Elvin for help in troop. Motion made and passed. Get a gift certificate from Kegel Motorcycle Company, $40. Eric will take care of this. Done.

Announcements Needed: None

Church Wreath: Paul will order a wreath for the church after asking them what size they would like. We will also ask about giving them a tree. They are more interested in two smaller (20 or 26") wreaths than a tree. They will let us know prior to the 18th. We will be providing a wreath for Toby Hauck from the church. The church ordered a wreath also. Both will be no charge. There was a suggestion about passing out old forms from scouts that have left the troop so newer scouts could call. Paul will work on this for next year.

Secretary: Belinda Cowdrey has graciously volunteered her time to become the new troop secretary. In fact, these minutes are provided through her efforts.

Church Service Project: Ed asked the troop to think about doing a service project for the church. Terry suggested that we help with the men’s club as this group was instrumental in getting us into the church. There is a men's club dinner every month; that is on the calendar. We were just informed that the Men’s Club needs help with serving and clean-up, because they will be short some of their members. Paul McCaffrey can be there and will bring 4 kids to help; Ed will be there with his scouts; a couple other scouts may help too. They need to be there at 4:30-4:45 pm. Phil will contact Bill Ziemke to coordinate everything. A spring service project will also be considered. They have two projects that could be used for Eagle projects. One is make a sign for the church. The second is to dig out the playground so it can be made deeper and enlarged. If the playground is not picked up as an Eagle project the troop will look at doing it as a service project in the Spring.

Web Site Registration: Registration with DotEasy is $25 and is due next month. John Vermie can get the domain name registered for $15. The troop moved and passed a motion to have John Vermie handle the registration of our website name. Further, there is some discussion about switching the website to John's server. There is risk whether we stay with the current server or switch to John's server. Need to discuss more at next meeting. The change in registration has been completed. A bill will be sent to us soon. Still need to discuss the possibility of changing the server.

Future Events

Popcorn: Still working on thank-you letter. New form for October sales is due October 1. We are selling popcorn, but Ken may have conflicts with his time, and needs help with orders. We made a good amount of money on consignment sales. Ken is looking for ideas for places to sell, and he needs help at these locations. Individual sales start on October 15th. Ken will not be available after November 1st. If it is after October 15th, Ed Blondin can help. Ken is not available until after Christmas. He is Santa Claus at Cherry Vale Mall. Paul has volunteered to collect the order forms and will contact Ken regarding it.

Tree Lot: Troop has 32 Christmas stands; Eric bought them for 25 cents each. We can sell for $5, plus. Al Fredrickson ran it last year, with help from Paul. Ed and Lois Blondin did not decline running it. Look at increasing firs to 70 - 75. Keep total at 400. Look at starting schedule earlier in the day, say 4:00 PM. Ed is thinking about taking on this role and will confirm later. Bill LeFevre will contact Lon regarding dumpster and trailer. Trees are ordered. They may not have more firs for us to order, but Harold will contact someone else regarding more firs. Cost of trees has gone up $.50 each. Eric will reserve our usual area at Perryville & Harrison. Ed will do this again. Tree selling techniques will be presented November 15th. About 60% of the slots are full. Ed will start making calls to fill in the remaining slots.

Tree Lot Set Up (Nov. 12): Time's are 9-10:30 am. Then we go to the Veteran’s Day Ceremony. Phil and Alex Reece will help with pre-setup. Still need to get the trailer, dumpster and outhouse.

Veterans Day Parade (Nov. 12): Terry got a phone call from Nancy Belt. He committed the Troop. Scouts will be carrying the official Colors. More information will follow.

Jamie Boon Yard Rake (Nov. 13): Bill LeFevre is organizing this.

New Business

Silver Beaver Nominations (Dec.1): Applications are available at the Scout office.

Swimming: Jefferson is not available, Belividere High School is using it and there are problems with the custodial pool staff. Marcus Tryggestad is checking at Rockford College and Rockford YMCA. Mr. Schmidt will still check with Guilford. Waiting for an answer from RESA. Millenium Center - $45 per hour 7:30 to 9:00 on Tuesday. Belvidere YMCA - $2.00 per person on Wednesday, are available; Belvidere is an open swim night. Dolphin Club is Friday only. Marcus and Eric will let Phil know what the results are so a decision can be made by the end of November and our swim night's chosen.

Christmas Party (Dec. 20): We will do similar games, $7.00 limit on gifts.

Lake Ripley (Jan 27-29): Lake Ripley is a week later in 2006 than usual; January 27-29.

Klondike Derby (Jan. 21): Nothing has been organized yet. Ken did not decline running it.

Men's Club Dinner: The men's club appreciated the 10 scouts and advisors who helped-out with the dinner. They would like to see 3 people each month to help; dinners will be provided to the three. People would need to arrive about 4:30 PM. The dinner runs from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. December is the only month they do not have a dinner. Phil will see if Bill Zemke will organize the people. We would like to see three people each month. They have about 300 people come through.

Philmont '07: Bill wants to know how many people would be interested. Ed did an informal survey, 6 scouts and 5 adults are interested at this time. The registration will be a lottery that is entered from the computer. Bill will put in dates to see what we can get. He will look at two treks. Terry suggested not having the older scouts on one trek and the younger ones on another. A crew of predominately smaller, inexperienced backpackers caused some equipment problems last time.
