Past Events
First Aid/CPR Certifications: Whoever needs it should get their name(s) to Eric Schmidt, or nothing will be arranged.
Wreath Sales (Sept. 27):Only a few scouts still need to pay. Total sales on paper: 5,472.90. The church's and Toby Hauck's wreath were delivered at no charge. $1900 still needs to be turned-in. We paid 5-cents per wreath surcharge. One center piece candle was damaged; Eric took it home. The troop will make approximately $1110 profit; also $800 will go in scout accounts. Several people came to the lot and wanted larger wreaths. We ran out the first weekend. Sold: 2 – 36", 1 cane, 17-26", 20–20", 1–48", 3 roping, 1 swag and 2 easels. We want to buy 2-60", 5-48", 5-36", 25-26", 25-20" and 2 ropings for next year, 2006.
Webelos overnighter: Sandy is having a problem making a reservation for next year at MacQueen FP. The lady does not return her calls. We will try to talk to Bill Prain at Russell Woods about the procedure.
Miscellaneous Business
Training:
Wood Badge: Craig completed the academics and is working on his Ticket.
Leader Specific: Ken will be making-up his missed sessions from last year -- Vicki is still working on hers.
Fast Start: Do it on-line; or set a date.
Uniform Inspection: Uniform inspection will be discussed at the next PLC meeting. SPL will put it on his agenda. This will be discussed next week at the PLC meeting.
Richard said it will be brought up in January, because no one is wearing uniforms now.
Troopmaster – We can spend the $130 to get new Troopmaster and dot com. Need to get FTP site before purchase. Will use the 90-day trial. The new version coming up may allow multiple level passwords. We will not be able to start on it until August. We’re leaving this item for Phil to discuss. He is talking with John Vermie to let us test the web capabilities. Phil will try it out.
Phil still working on it.
Announcements Needed: Pizza Party, Lake Ripley, Klondike Derby, Nuclear Science MB, Russell Woods, Ski Trip Chestnut Mountain, and Summer Camp.
Church Service Project: They have two projects that could be used for Eagle projects. One is make a sign for the church. The second is to dig out the playground so it can be made deeper and enlarged. If the playground is not picked up as an Eagle project the troop will look at doing it as a service project in the Spring.
Popcorn: Ken is not available until after Christmas. He is Santa Claus at Cherry Vale Mall. Paul has volunteered to collect the order forms and will contact Ken regarding it.
Ken should bring leftover popcorn to the Pizza Party, Dec. 20. One sheet was lost, need to work out how to deliver and pay for the popcorn.
Future Events
Tree Lot: Troop has 32 Christmas stands; Eric bought them for 25 cents each. We can sell for $5, plus. Al Fredrickson ran it last year, with help from Paul. Ed and Lois Blondin did not decline running it. Look at increasing firs to 70 - 75. Keep total at 400. Look at starting schedule earlier in the day; say 4:00 PM. Ed is thinking about taking on this role and will confirm later. Bill LeFevre will contact Lon regarding dumpster and trailer. Trees are ordered. They may not have more firs for us to order, but Harold will contact someone else regarding more firs. Cost of trees has gone up $.50 each. Eric will reserve our usual area at Perryville & Harrison. Ed will do this again. Tree selling techniques will be presented November 15th. About 60% of the slots are full. Ed will start making calls to fill in the remaining slots.
As of the 12th there were 19 trees left. According to the tally sheets – we sold 372 trees, $11,659 total for sales, leaving $6339 as profit. We’ve sold 51 tree bags and 16 tree stands. We have about 16 trees and 9 tree stands left as of now. We need to consider changing the locks. Trailer was broken into at least twice, and the bucket lid was ripped/cut. We need to come up with a different way to handle the money. Suggestions were to have a separate lock for the tree lot, or possibly put a key with the money box every night. We will need two key locks for both doors. Terry suggested that we change the combination on some of the locks for the season or a key for another one.
Next year we want more Fraser Firs. We bought 70 and sold the last one on Saturday, December 10th. Next year we should order 80. This year we bought (10) Fraser firs 6-7’ at $20.50, (30) 7-8’ at $25.50, and (30) 8-9’ at $33.50. [We received (3) shorter than 6’.] We need to have a tiered system for pricing them next year. Consider scout families preordering Fraser firs. Terry suggests tagging individual Fraser firs with prices next year. [We lost some profits on them this year.] We have one box (5 cartridges) of netting left, marked to save for 2006. We sold out of tree removal bags. For next year: Order (1) TN20/2 netting ($91), (2) TL48 ($47.6 ea), and (1) TL2100 ($9.75) price tags, plus ($50 shipping) all $ estimates.
Swimming: Jefferson is not available; Belividere High School is using it and there are problems with the custodial pool staff. Marcus Tryggestad is checking Rockford College and Rockford YMCA. Mr. Schmidt will still check with Guilford. We’re waiting for an answer from RESA. Millenium Center - $45 per hour 7:30 to 9:00 on Tuesday. Belvidere YMCA - $2.00 per person on Wednesday, is available as an open swim night. Dolphin Swim Club is Friday only. Marcus and Eric will let Phil know what the results are, so a decision can be made by the end of November and our swim night's chosen.
Two choices remain: Millennium Center or Belvidere YMCA. Millienium Center (former YWCA) is Tuesday night, there’s no guest seating and a small locker room. Lois suggested rotating scouts through locker room by patrol. Eric will see if it is still available. The Belvidere YMCA is $2.00 per person on Wednesday but is an open swim night. Paul sys it tends to have problems with maintenance and closes unpredictably. Phil will check with Jim Fry regarding Flinn’s pool. A sub-committee will make a decision next week. Also, Eric is working on Rockford College for next year.
Christmas Party (Dec. 20): We will do similar games, $7.00 limit on gifts. We’re estimating 85 people to attend. Eric will order 11 large pizzas. Lois will get plates, napkins, and cups. Several will bring punch bowls. Lois is doing drinks also. Belinda is bringing dessert for all.
Lake Ripley (Jan 27-29): Lake Ripley is a week later in 2006 than usual; January 27-29.
Klondike Derby (Jan. 21): Nothing has been organized yet. Ken did not decline running it.
Mr. Nichols will come up with an announcement. Two groups will be building sleds. Troop will pay for materials to build them; $50.00 cap. Motion approved.
Men's Club Dinner: The CVUMC Men's club appreciated the 10 scouts and advisors who helped-out with the dinner. They would like to see 3 people each month to help; dinners will be provided for the three. People would need to arrive about 4:30 PM. The dinner runs from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. December is the only month they do not have a dinner. Phil will see if Bill Zemke will organize the people. They have about 300 people come through.
Bill has agreed to organize the help for the Men’s club dinner. We may not be able to help at all of them.
Philmont '07: Bill wants to know how many people would be interested. Ed did an informal survey, 6 scouts and 5 adults are interested at this time. The registration will be a lottery that is entered from the computer. Bill will put in dates to see what we can get. He will look at two treks. Terry suggested not having the older scouts all on one trek and the younger scouts on the other. A crew of predominately smaller, inexperienced backpackers caused some equipment problems last time.
New Business
Recharting: Terry has not heard any new information. Roundtable was cancelled last Thursday, 12/8. Internet rechartering training will be conducted this Thursday night at the rescheduled Roundtable.
Move Committee Night: Do we want to change our committee meeting nights because it is the same as our District’s meeting? All agreed, so we would get more people back (Craig and MaryAnn). We will do committee meetings on the last Tuesday of the month instead.
SUMMER CAMP (July 2-8, 2006): Cost is $180 per Scout (early-bird price) and $17 per day for adults, which the troop will pay. The deposit will be $30 for the each scout, with a $25 fee for additional scouts in the same family; due by March 3rd; the balance is due May 5th. There is a $10 late fee if someone signs up after March 3rd. New scouts joining from Webelos den will sign-up later. We will do sign-up for two less scouts, to make sure we do not lose the whole deposit for any cancellations. Sandy would like to use the January 17th troop meeting to inform parents about this camp experience.
