Past Events

First Aid/CPR Certifications: Whoever needs it should get their name(s) to Eric Schmidt, or nothing will be arranged.

Wreath Sales (Sept. 27):

Only a few scouts still need to pay. Total sales on paper: 5,472.90. The church's and Toby Hauck's wreath were delivered at no charge. $1900 still needs to be turned-in. We paid 5-cents per wreath surcharge. One center piece candle was damaged; Eric took it home. The troop will make approximately $1110 profit; also $800 will go in scout accounts. Several people came to the lot and wanted larger wreaths. We ran out the first weekend. Sold: 2 - 36", 1 cane, 17-26", 20-20", 1-48", 3 roping, 1 swag and 2 easels. We want to buy 2-60", 5-48", 5-36", 25-26", 25-20" and 2 ropings for next year, 2006. Still $100.00 outstanding.

Webelos overnighter:

Sandy is having a problem making a reservation for next year at Mac Queen FP. The lady does not return her calls. We will try to talk to Bill Prain at Russell Woods about the procedure. Did not contact anyone yet.

Miscellaneous Business

Training:

Wood Badge: Craig completed the academics and is working on his Ticket. Scouting for Food is his major one. Adult training, fast art training and

Leader Specific: Ken will be making-up his missed sessions from last year -- Vicki is still working on hers. Ken's done. Steve Horan is still working on his.

Fast Start: Do it on-line; or set a date.

Uniform Inspection: Uniform inspection will be discussed at the next PLC meeting. SPL will put it on his agenda. This will be discussed next week at the PLC meeting. Richard said it will be brought up in January, because no one is wearing uniforms now, in December.

The PLC has chosen February 14th.

Needs sheets -- Richard will take care of getting enough forms. Need someone to come in from a recruiting center, like a military person. Eric says his son would not be available, not enough time. Checking with Terry White to see if he can do it, Steve Horan will check on.

Troopmaster - We can spend the $130 to get new Troopmaster and dot com. Need to get FTP site before purchase. Will use the 90-day trial. The new version coming up may allow multiple level passwords. We will not be able to start on it until August. We're leaving this item for Phil to discuss. He is talking with John Vermie to let us test the web capabilities. Phil will try it out. Phil is still working on it.

Still working.

Announcements Needed: Nuclear Science MB, Russell Woods, Ski Trip Chestnut Mountain, (Eric will give Terry Nichols the information, and Mr. Nichols will make up the announcement.)

Church Service Project: They have two projects that could be used for Eagle projects. One is make a sign for the church. The second is to dig out the playground so it can be made deeper and enlarged. If the playground is not picked up as an Eagle project the troop will look at doing it as a service project in the spring.

One Scout asked about it, but changed his mind.

Popcorn: Ken is not available until after Christmas. He is Santa Claus at Cherry Vale Mall. Paul has volunteered to collect the order forms and will contact Ken regarding it. Ken should bring leftover popcorn to the Pizza Party on Dec. 20. One sheet was lost, need to work out how to deliver and pay for the popcorn.

Ken says still missing about $200.00

Future Events

Swimming:

Jefferson is not available; Belvidere High School is using it and there are problems with the custodial pool staff. Marcus Tryggestad is checking Rockford College and Rockford YMCA. Mr. Schmidt will still check with Guilford. We're waiting for an answer from RESA. Millennium Center is $45 per hour 7:30 to 9:00 on Tuesday. Belvidere YMCA - $2.00 per person on Wednesday, is available as an open swim night. Dolphin Swim Club is Friday only. Marcus and Eric will let Phil know what the results are, so a decision can be made by the end of November and our swim night's chosen. Two choices remain: Millennium Center or Belvidere YMCA. Millennium Center (former YWCA) is Tuesday night, there's no guest seating and a small locker room. Lois suggested rotating scouts through locker room by patrol. Eric will see if it is still available. The Belvidere YMCA is $2.00 per person on Wednesday but is an open swim night. Paul sys it tends to have problems with maintenance and closes unpredictably. Phil will check with Jim Fry regarding Flinn's pool. A sub-committee will make a decision next week. Also, Eric is working on Rockford College for next year.

Maybe one swim night at Rockford College for this year as a trial? One, maybe two of last swim nights there. Terry & Phil are going to go Friday to Rockford College to check it out. Possibly go back to Tuesdays. Flat fee of $20.00. BJ says it is slightly smaller than an Olympic pool. It does have two diving boards. We have to furnish our own lifeguard. They have bleachers. Belinda provided the contract from Jefferson for next year. Eric is working on Rockford College for next year also. Need to check and see if our lifeguard will be available. We will make a decision at next meeting.

Had some problems with the swim team getting out of the Belvidere Y pool on time on January 11. Rockford College is still interested in us going there. We will be talking with BJ Robertson (394-3727) to set up a tour. Belinda has a contract for Jefferson for '07

Christmas Party (Dec. 20): We will do similar games, $7.00 limit on gifts. We're estimating 85 people to attend. Eric will order 11 large pizzas. Lois will get plates, napkins, and cups. Several will bring punch bowls. Lois is doing drinks also. Belinda is bringing dessert for all.

62 people attended. 32 of 36 scouts came, 52 people exchanged gifts. 11 pizzas were purchased, maybe one or two too many. Thanks to Lois for the drinks and thanks to Belinda for the Christmas treats.

Lake Ripley (Jan. 27-29): Lake Ripley is a week later in 2006 than usual; January 27-29.

4 adults will be attending: Steve Fedor, Terry, Ed Blondin, and MaryAnn. 16 scouts are going.

Klondike Derby (Jan. 21): Nothing has been organized yet. Ken did not decline running it. Mr. Nichols will come up with an announcement. Two groups will be building sleds. Troop will pay for materials to build them; $50.00 cap. Motion approved. Everybody had fun, the patrols did well for first time attending The sleds cost about $30 for one, and about $45 for the other.

Men's Club Dinner: The CVUMC Men's club appreciated the 10 scouts and advisors who helped-out with the dinner. They would like to see 3 people each month to help; dinners will be provided for the three. People would need to arrive about 4:30 PM. The dinner runs from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. December is the only month they do not have a dinner. Phil will see if Bill Zemke will organize the people. They have about 300 people come through. Bill has agreed to organize the help for the Men's club dinner. We may not be able to help at all of them.

On January 21, two scouts attended. They'd like to have 3 scouts, plus adults. Three volunteered, but only 1 came, and 1 came for half the time.

Philmont '07: Bill wants to know how many people would be interested. Ed did an informal survey, 6 scouts and 5 adults are interested at this time. The registration will be a lottery that is entered from the computer. Bill will put in dates to see what we can get. He will look at two treks. Terry suggested not having the older scouts all on one trek and the younger scouts on the other. A crew of predominately smaller, inexperienced backpackers caused some equipment problems last time.

We are on the waiting list. So is Crew 181.

New Business

Rechartering: Terry has not heard any new information. Roundtable was cancelled last Thursday, 12/8. Internet rechartering training will be conducted this Thursday night at the rescheduled Roundtable.

Rechartering is in process. Terry is verifying everyone's information. Cost will be about $975. To be done end of February. After downloading all data and checking through all of it; 2 Scouts are not registered -- talked to their parents tonight. 36 boys and 36 adults - 9 adults are 'multiple.' 2 more scouts submitted applications tonight and 2 more will complete applications. 4 adults and 8 scouts were dropped, most with permission. Charter $974. Add other 4 scouts over $1,000. Well in to progress. No ranks on the charter forms, could cause problems with Quality Unit.

Committee Meetings: Do we want to change our committee meeting nights because it is the same as our District's meeting? All agreed, so we would get more people back (Craig and MaryAnn). We will do committee meetings on the last Tuesday of the month instead.

Need to look at moving the February committee meeting to 7th, 14th Valentines Day, 21st Family Night, or 28th no scout meeting because of swimming. Voted to keep the meeting on the 28th at 6:30 PM, no scouts that night.

Summer Camp (July 2-8, 2006): Cost is $180 per Scout (early-bird price) and $17 per day for adults, which the troop will pay. The deposit will be $30 for the each scout, with a $25 fee for additional scouts in the same family; due by March 3rd; the balance is due May 5th. There is a $10 late fee if someone signs up after March 3rd. New scouts joining from Webelos den will sign-up later. We will do sign-up for two less scouts, to make sure we do not lose the whole deposit for any cancellations. Sandy would like to use the January 17th troop meeting to inform parents about this camp experience.

Sandy sent out emails checking to see who would like to go to Radnor summer camp. 9 Scouts and 4 adults replied that they would like to go.

Continuous Fire (February 4-11, 2006): The troop will be visiting on the 7th. On Wednesday, February 8th from 6:00 am to 2:00 p.m. Eric volunteered the troop to cover the shift. Terry, Eric, Steve Horan, Sandy and possibly Belinda will work there.

Nuclear Science Merit Badge (Feb. 4, 2006): Phil and Ed are organizing it. Will be at Fire Station 2 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. Scouts must have prerequisites done. Can we serve lunch, about $30 for pizza and pop? Announcement will be handed-out next Wednesday at swimming. Also, it will be on the website.

Russell Woods (Feb. 10-12, 2006): No discussion.

Scout Sunday (Feb. 12, 2006): Show up at the church. Pastor Steve Mindrup has a scouting background. Let's show him our support. The church service is at 10:00 a.m. We're coming back from Russell Woods early to make the service. Terry has been conversing with Pastor Steve through emails, and everything is set up. (February 5th is Scout Sunday for other churches.)

Ski Trip (Feb. 18, 2006): Terry can not go, Eric will organize it. Three places: Cascade Mountain is 1-1/2 hours away, Chestnut Mountain is 1:45-hours $40, Dubuque is 2-hours away at $32. Smaller areas are cheaper and can get a group rate. Eric Schmidt presented the info. Lift ticket is stand alone. To rent gear is another $25. Turn out was small last year due to the cost. On Fridays it's only $35 total. We'll be checking to see if we can get a group to commit.

Scouting for Food (Feb. 25, 2006): Craig is District Coordinator. Only 7 units have committed. MaryAnn suggested that those here talk to their Pack to see if they would help. Sandy is checking to see if we could use a pantry that would be more convenient. She's checking-in with Ken Rock. We suggested bringing food to Family Night. Terry Nichols brought up that it is suppose to be a community project. Go out on a Saturday and drop off bags and come back next week to pick them up. Mark suggested that you could put a troop info card in there, talking about our troop. Knocking on doors produces more food than just drive-by picking-up. Scouts will be in uniform. Need a flyer made out to give our troop information. Estimate 1-hour the first Saturday and 3-hours the next Saturday as approximate time frames. Good activity for a transition for incoming new Webelos to go with a seasoned scout. Staple or tape info-sheet to bag. Feb. 25 and March 4th. Phil asked Terry to email pastor to see if he has a food pantry preference.

District Nominations (Mar. 3, 2006): Need to elect District Award of Merit, Unit Spirit Award, Outstanding Scouter Awards. Mark talked about what the requirements were. Belvidere UAW, April 2nd is the awards ceremony.

Semi-Bi Annual First Aid Meet (Mar. 11, 2006): No news.

March Outing (Mar ?, 2006): Two campouts in April are enough to take care of the one in March!

Show and Do (Mar ?, 2006): Not setup yet. It was cancelled last year. MaryAnn said she thought it was at Lowden, outdoors; but doesn't know the dates.

OA Election (by May 1, 2006): Terry says it is earlier. Youth elections for our troop will be March 21st. Adult election will need to be done at next committee meeting. Discussed requirements. Ken, Sandy and MaryAnn are eligible. Ed, Lois, Dannette may also be eligible. Mark said the Lodge needs adults who are willing to commit -- If not, please do not elect them.

New business thoughts

Discuss: Change in advancements. Confusion has been cleared up. (New recruitment requirement for First Class: Just need to invite someone to a scout event.)

Merit Badge The '06 book is the Bible not the merit badge book.

Fiesta Italiana needs a chairman for next year. Steve Horan will be doing it - no conflicts this year.

F.O.S. (Feb 21): Mark talked about FOS - the District is already at 10% of goal. $1935 is troop goal for 2006. Terry mentioned that we have Court of Honor in February and asked Mark if he would speak at it.
